525th Military Police Battalion
The 525th Military Police Battalion's mission is to provides command, control, and operational support to high risk detention operations at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in support of the Joint Detention Group and Joint Task Force Guantanamo in order to Support the Global War on Terror.
The 525th Military Police Battalion was first constituted on 30 August 1944 in the Army of the United States as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 158th Military Police Service Battalion and activated on 5 September 1944 in India. The Battalion served in China-Burma-India theater of operations, participating in the India-Burma and Central Burma campaigns during the Second World War. After the end of the Second World War, the Battalion was inactivated on 1 November 1945 in India.
The unit was redesignated on 25 April 1949 as Headquarters, 525th Military Police Service Battalion and allotted to the Regular Army. It was activated on 11 May 1949 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The Battalion was again reorganized and redesignated on 15 December 1950 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 525th Military Police Service Battalion. Deploying in support of the Korean War, the Battalion participated in 4 campaigns there: UN Summer-Fall Offensive, Second Korean Winter, Korea Summer-Fall 1952, and Third Korean Winter. The Battalion was inactivated on 20 March 1953 in Korea.
The Battalion was redesignated on 18 January 1966 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 525th Military Police Battalion and activated on 23 March 1966 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. It was inactivated there on 25 July 1968 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
The Battalion was activated on 16 October 2004 at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in order to take head up the Joint Task Force Guantanamo's guard force, which became the Joint Detention Group (JDG) in 2005. The 525th Military Police Battalion provides command, control, and operational support to the JDG. As of 2011, the JDG consisted of approximately 1,300 personnel from both the US Army and Navy.
