50th Main Support Battalion
The 50th Main Support Battalion is headquartered in Teaneck, NJ, with units in several counties. The Main Support Battalion has a supply company, a transportation company, three maintenance companies, and a medical company. It can provide different and more in depth services than a forward support battalion.
The supply company provides food, fuel, ammunition, water, and all types of supplies to the entire division. It is located in Jersey City, NJ.
The transportation company moves divisional supplies and equipment on heavy trucks and tractor-trailers. It is located in Dover, Morris County, NJ.
The light maintenance company fixes electronic, radio,computer, and optical devices. It is located in Lawrenceville, NJ.
The heavy maintenance company in West Orange evacuates and repairs tracked and automotive equipment -- everything up to battle tanks and howitzers.
The missile repair company works on army missile systems, like the TOW, Avenger, and Stinger missiles. It is located in West Orange, NJ as well.
The medical company is like a small hospital -- treating patients and holding them in a ward until they can be evacuated to more permanent facilities. The medical company is from Jersey City.
In 1997 Company D, 50th Main Support Battalion participated in National Training Center (NTC) exercises successfully completing a record breaking 507 work orders in a two-week time frame, setting a NTC record. Company E, 50th Main Support Battalion assisted the Army Missile Maintenance Command in Letterkenny, Pa., providing maintenance on their missile systems in various levels of direct support and depot level maintenance.
In 1998, the 50th Main Support Battalion (MSB), along with other elements of 42nd DISCOM, provided a variety of maintenance, medical and support missions in support of the National Training Center at Fort Irwin. This large scale, "real world" operation included both active and guard units operating in severe field conditions. In addition, support was provided to the 50th Brigade at Fort Dix as well as the 3rd and 86th Brigades at Fort Drum. Personnel of the 50th MSB provided depot level depot level missile maintenance support at Letterkenny Army Depot.
