501st Special Troops Battalion
101st Division Special Troops Battalion
"Strength of the Eagle"

The Division Special Troops Battalion was activated on the 16 July in 2004. The 501st STB's mission is to provide modular worldwide deployable command posts capable of sustaining themselves, synchronizing operations, and massing the effects of Joint, Coalition, or Army forces in order to support Regional Combatant Commander requirements anywhere in the world. With 1100 soldiers from virtually every military occupational specialty across the Army the battalion provides the 101st Airborne Division Commander with unique abilities to functionally or geographically distribute operations and command the division from anywhere in the world, hence their motto "Strength of the Eagle."

In September of 2005 the Division STB along with the rest of the Screaming Eagles deployed in support of Operation Iraqi freedom. The STB took control of Continuing Operating Base Speicher outside of Tikrit. The Battalion was responsible for the security and life support of COB Speicher. After a year of long hours, widely varied mission, and many jobs well done, the Division STB returned to Fort Campbell in September of 2006.

In 2008 the Division STB deployed as part of the 101st Airborne Division's contribution to Combined Joint Task Force 101 in Afghanistan (led by the Division). The Division STB was deployed with the Division Headquarters as Task Force Gladiator based in Regional Command East in Afghanistan.
