5th Battalion - 113th Field Artillery
5th Battalion 113th Field Artillery of the North Carolina Army National Guard is a Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) battalion. Units of the battalion are located in Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point, Youngsville, and Zebulon. The mission of the FIELD ARTILLERY is to destroy, neutralize, or suppress the enemy by cannon, rocket and missile fire and to help integrate all fire support assets into combined arms operations.
The Federal Mission of the 5th Battalion, 113th FA is to conduct and sustain combat operations to deliver timely, accurate and lethal general supporting field artillery fires in support of the 113th Field Artillery Brigade contingency operations and will provide reinforcing fires when required. The State Mission of the 5-113th FA is to provide soldiers and equipment to protect life, property and to preserve peace, order and public safety when called upon by the Governor of the State of North Carolina.
The battalion has a proud heritage. It participated in two World Wars, Korea, and numerous local civil actions. Recent National Guard missions were Hurricane Floyd relief efforts and Snowstorm 2000 in January 2000. A special National Training Center mission in the summer of 2000 reforged the battalion's combat readiness.
