434th Chemical Company
The mission of the 434th Chemical Company is to, on Order, mobilize and deploy, move to and occupy assembly areas, and conduct Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (NBC) Decontamination, NBC Reconnaissance and Smoke Operations in Support of the 34th Infantry Division.
The 434th Chemical Company is a 165 soldier unit assigned to provide support to the 34th Infantry Division. The unit consists of the Co (-) located in Northfield, MN and Det 1 located in Red Wing, MN. The Co (-) consists of the Co HQ, 2 Decontamination Platoons, 1 Mechanized Reconnaissance Platoon and 1 Mechanized Smoke Platoon. The Det 1 consists of 2 Decontamination Platoons and the Division Chemical Section/Staff which is attached to the Division HQ in Rosemount. The personnel of the unit include both Male and Female soldiers trained in Decon, Recon and Smoke operations, but assigned to a particular Platoon.
As a Minnesota Army National Guard unit, the 434th Chemical Company can be called upon by the Governor of Minnesota to assist the State and local Communities during times of disaster or need. The unit has helped in the search for a lost child in a nearby community, provided water pumping capabilities to the cities of Granite Falls and East Grand Forks during the Flood of 1997.
