410th Base Support Battalion
By the end of 2001 the 410th Base Support Battalion closed up shop in Bad Kreuznach, as part of the process of returning American military installations to German control. The Battalion was subsequently inactivated.
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced on 15 February 2000, that the Department of Defense would end operations at 2 overseas locations as part of the 25th round of base closures. Headquarters US Army Europe ceased operations in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, and returned 6 facilities to host nation control. These were the Bad Kreuznach Family Housing Area, the Army Air Field, the Hospital Kaserne, the George C. Marshall Kaserne, the Moersfeld Storage Point and Rose Barracks.
The 410th Base Support Battalion published a closure plan to facilitate a smooth transition of community members to their new homes, maintain services as long as necessary, and bring an honorable end to the Bad Kreuznach military community. Dubbed "Honorable Exit," the plan's mission was to transfer the Dexheim Area Support Team under the command and control of the 221st Base Support Battalion in Wiesbaden no later than March 2001, to turn over all facilities in Bad Kreuznach to the US Army Europe Real Estate Office, and to inactivate the 410th Base Support Battalion on 15 December 2001. Two components of the 410th Base Support Battalion closure plan, employee transition milestones and service "end dates" for all community activities, were coordinated and finalized at the Bad Kreuznach Closure Conference on 18 July 2001. Command and staff representatives from the 1st Armored Division, 104th Area Support Group and the 410th Base Support Battalion attended the meeting held at the Nahe Club.
