4th Battalion, 6th Air Defense Artillery Regiment

In June 2004, 4th Battalion, 6th Air Defense Artillery cased its colors and was inactivated. The Battalion had trained more than 1,400 officers a year for every year of its existence.

The 4th Battalion, 6th Air Defense Artillery Regiment mission was to produce combat-ready warrant officers (WOBC, WOAC), platoon leaders, and battery commanders; execute the security assistance training program for the US Army Air Defense Artillery School and Fort Bliss, Texas; and support the 6th Air Defense Artillery Brigade mobilization plan. The 4th Battalion, 6th Air Defense Artillery Brigade met the nation's air defense requirements through training and educating future leaders to be technically and tactically proficient air and missile defense battery commanders, battle captains, platoon leaders, and warrant officers. The Battalion executed Air Defense brigade and battalion pre-command course and conducted the security assistance training program. The Battalion also provides administrative and logistics support to all US and international students.

The 4th Battalion, 6th Air Defense Artillery conducted and supported ADA officer institutional training. Battery A was responsible for the Officer Advanced Course and Warrant Officer Advanced Course: MOSs 14B (SHORAD System Officer), 14E (Patriot System Officer), 140A (FAAD C4I System Integrator), and 140E (Patriot System Technician). Battery B was responsible for the Officer Basic Course: MOSs 14B (SHORAD System Officer) and 14E (Patriot System Officer).

The Battalion designed, developed, reviewed, and updated POIs, lesson plans, and related materials for institutional training. It maintained an audit trail of POI and lesson plans development and qualified instructors, following their graduation from the Brigade TAITC and Small Group Instructor Course, via the Battalion Qualification Board. The Battalion scheduled and adjusted classes in accordance with the Structure Manpower Decision Review and Training Requirements Arbitration Panel processes, producing appropriate training schedules. It performed academic counseling; conduct academic boards, when necessary, and rendered recommendations. The Battalion also administered the International Military Student Office (IMSO) in support of FMS students receiving Air Defense Artillery training. To this end it coordinated with the Security Assistance Training Field Activity (SATFA) and country liaison officers and conducted local and out-of-town activities, sponsor the International Military Host Family Program, and executed the information program. At base the unit maintained unit physical readiness and executed and support soldier and family care and community responsibilities.

In 1988, The School Brigade, Air Defense Artillery School was reflagged as the 6th Air Defense Artillery Brigade. At that time, 4th Battalion, 6th Air Defense Artillery, previously assigned directly to the Army's Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) was reassigned to the Brigade. In 1988, the Battalion hosted more than 2,000 students from 26 countries. It was also supported more than 800 students, cadre and soldiers of the German Air Force Defense School, the Japanese Annual Service Practice and a local contractor-operated English language training facility.
