2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion
"Titans"
The mission of the 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion is to, On order, deploy to a specified theater of operations, and integrate/execute the intelligence, M/CM/S, and C2 functions, in order to enable 2nd Brigade Combat Team (Unit of Action) full spectrum operations. The 2nd Brigade Troops Battalion includes the UA staff, a military police platoon, a signal company, an intelligence company, an engineer company, and a fire support coordination cell.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 13 December 2004. It is a Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a shield blazoned as follows: Sable, a griffin's head erased Or garnished of the first above a lightning flash Tenné and a sword point up of the second in saltire; a bordure bendy-sinister of seven Azure and Argent. Attached below the shield a Black scroll inscribed "WE FIGHT AS ONE" in Gold letters. The griffin, a heraldic beast, symbolizes vigilance and strength. Black and white signifies night and day, around the clock combat readiness. The orange lightning flash refers to the Signal Corps connection and the tactical information networks and systems support of the unit. The sword is adapted from the Military Intelligence branch insignia and refers to intelligence collection, analysis and electronic warfare support. They are crossed to highlight cooperation and teamwork in support of the Brigade Unit of Action mission. The blue and white border represents the 3rd Infantry Division and the unit's association with them.

The 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion was reorganized and reflagged on 17 March 2004, from the 10th Engineer Battalion during a National Training Center rotation and formally activated on 17 June 2004. The Brigade Special Troops Battalion includes a Headquarters and Headquarters Company, a Signal Network Support Company, and a Military Intelligence Company.
The HHC was formed from the former Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 10th Engineer was reflagged as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion. The company is comprised of an organic military police platoon, support platoon, headquarters section, security section, and a medical support section. Their mission includes providing command and control, security, administration, and logistics support to the staff sections, all attachments, and the Brigade Special Troops companies. The Military Police Platoon had been reflagged from the 3rd Military Police Company.
B company of the 123rd Signal Battalion, habitually assigned to the 2nd Brigade, was reflagged as the Signal Company, 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion. The company consists of a headquarters and network support platoon, 2 network extension platoons, a NETOPS cell, the Joint Network Nodes (JNN), subordinate CP nodes and single channel signal support teams. The network control center is resourced to directly interface with the strategic network, manage bandwidth to subordinate battalions, and extend the strategic information assurance plan into the tactical formation.
One company of the 103rd Military Intelligence Battalion, habitually assigned to the 2nd Brigade, was reflagged as the Military Intelligence Company, 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion. The MICO consists of a small headquarters element, a Human Intelligence Collection Platoon, a Signals Intelligence platoon, a Common Ground Station section, a Trojan Spirit Section, a chemical recon section, and a tactical unmanned aerial vehicle (TUAV) platoon.
2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III from 21 January 2005 to 10 January 2006 with 2nd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized) and was located at FOB Loyalty, Baghdad, Iraq. The Signal Company established a JNN network for the first time, linking communications for 3 Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) and 4 recognized repeatedly for the signals intelligence operations and human intelligence gathering. The Battalion played an integral role in Iraqi reconstruction efforts, tracking or managing over $800 million worth of contracts awarded to provide clean water, sewage removal, electrical systems, and basic essential services to the Iraqi citizens.
In 2007, the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized) deployed again to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, remaining that country into 2008. Elements of the 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion accompanied the Brigade on the deployment.
