341st Medical Battalion (EVAC)
Located just east of Dallas in Mesquite, TX, the 341st Medical Battalion (EVAC) provides command and control of medical evacuation units, both air and ground, in time of war. These units are critical to the medical mission of the Army Medical Corps to clear the battlefield of sick and wounded, to evacuate these personnel to the appropriate medical treatment facility, and to assist in the evacuation process to return wounded personnel home.
The unit has a training associate relationship with the 1st Cavalry Division.
The mission of the medical evacuation battalion is to provide command and control of air and ground evacuation units within the theater of operations. Capabilities of the unit include: Command and control and supervision of operations, training, and administration of a combination of three to seven assigned or attached medical companies (air and ground ambulance). Staff and technical supervision of aviation operations, safety, and aviation unit maintenance within attached air ambulance companies. Coordination of medical evacuation operations and communications functions on a 24-hour, two-shift basis. Medical supply support to attached units. Echelon I health service support and aviation medicine.
The 341st Medical Battalion (Evacuations) was constituted 29 July 1921 in the Organized Reserves as Headquarters and Service Company, 341st Medical Regiment and assigned to First Corps area. Organized in January 1922 with Headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts. Redesignated 15 September 1943 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 341st Medical Group. Inactivated 25 December 1945 in Japan. Assigned 6 December 1946 to First Army. Activated 17 December 1946 at New York, New York. Inactivated 31 July 1950 from assignment to the First Army and assigned to the Fifth Army. Relieved 21 September 1950 from assignment to the First Army and assigned to the Fifth Army. Activated 16 October 1950 at Lincoln, Nebraska. Inactivated 30 September 1959 at Lincoln, Nebraska. Activated 16 April 1982 at Seagoville, Texas. Redesignated 19 September 1994 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 341st Medical Battalion (Evacuation) at Mesquite, Texas.
