334th Forward Support Battalion
The 334th Brigade Support Battalion is the brigade support battalion organic to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division. An element of the Iowa Army National Guard, the unit is headquartered in Davenport, IA, with units located around the state.
Prior to the transformation of the 2nd Brigade, 34th Infantry Division and the Division as a whole to the US Army's modular force structure, the mission of the 334th Forward Support Battalion was to provide logistic support to the 2nd Brigade (Air Assault), 34th Infantry Division. This involved supporting between 2,000-3,000 soldiers with all classes of supply. From food and water to ammunition, medical supplies and repair parts, the 334th Forward Support Battalion, an element of the Division Support Command, 34th Infantry Division was the organization tasked with providing and/or hauling those supplies.
Prior to the modular transformation, the 334th Forward Support Battalion consisted of 3 company sized units and a command and control headquarters. Company A was a supply unit that provides fuel, food and transportation assets to the 2nd Brigade elements. Some of the equipment that Company A used included 5,000 gallon fuel tankers, water tankers and 5-ton trucks. Company B was a maintenance company that provided maintenance support for equipment in 2nd Brigade. Company B's equipment included 10-ton wreckers. Company C was a medical company that provided medical treatment to the soldiers in 2nd Brigade. Their equipment included wheeled and armored tracked ambulances, medical equipment to include X-ray, Lab and Dental treatment and a 40-person hospital/treatment center. Additionally, there were 3 forward support companies designated to assist various units in the division.
