30th Field Artillery Regiment
"Hard Chargers"

The 30th Field Artillery Regiment provides the command and support structure for Training Command.

The 30th Field Artillery Regiment was originally constituted on 5 July 1918 in the National Guard as the 30th Field Artillery and assigned to the 10th Division. It organized on 10 August 1918 at Camp Funston, KS, before being demobilized there on 5 February 1919.

Reconstituted on 24 March 1923 in the Regular Army as the 30th Field Artillery, it activated on 4 June 1941 at Camp Roberts, CA. The regiment was broken up on 18 May 1944 and its elements reorganized and redesignated as follows:

  • Headquarters and Headquarters Battery as Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 30th Field Artillery Group
  • 1st and 2d Battalions as the 521st and 550th Field Artillery Battalions, respectively

After 18 May 1944 the above units underwent changes as follows:

  • Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 30th Field Artillery Group, inactivated on 31 July 1946 in Germany. It reactivated on 20 March 1951 at Camp Polk, LA, and inactivated on 1 June 1958 in Germany; it was concurrently redesignated as Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 30th Artillery Group.
  • The 521st Field Artillery Battalion was redesignated on 1 May 1945 as the 30th Field Artillery Battalion, before inactivating on 9 February 1949 at Fort Bragg, NC. It reactivated on 22 February 1950 at Fort Bragg, NC, and inactivated on 25 June 1958 at Fort Lewis, WA.
  • The 550th Field Artillery Battalion inactivated on 8 February 1946 at Camp Swift, TX. Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 550th Field Artillery Battalion, was redesignated on 1 August 1946 as the 550th Field Artillery Battery and activated at Fort Benning, GA (organic elements concurrently disbanded). The Battery inactivated on 23 November 1948 at Fort Benning, GA. It reactivated on 1 February 1952 at Fort Bragg, NC, and was redesignated on 25 October 1952 as the 550th Field Artillery Rocket Battery. It reorganized and as redesignated on 15 March 1957 as Headquarters, Headquarters and Service Battery, 550th Field Artillery Rocket Battalion (Battery A and Medical Detachment, 550th Field Artillery Battalion, was concurrently reconstituted in the Regular Army, redesignated as Battery A and Medical Detachment, 550th Field Artillery Rocket Battalion, and activated at Fort Bliss, TX). The Battalion inactivated on 25 June 1956 at Fort Bliss, TX.

Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 30th Artillery Group; 30th Field Artillery Battalion; and the 550th Field Artillery Rocket Battalion were consolidated, reorganized, and redesignated on 31 July 1959 as the 30th Artillery, a parent regiment under the Combat Arms Regimental System. It was redesignated on 1 September 1971 as the 30th Field Artillery.

The unit was withdrawn on 16 July 1988 from the Combat Arms Regimental System, reorganized under the United States Army Regimental System, and transferred to the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command
