242nd Engineer Battalion (CBT)
The 242nd Engineer Battalion was organized and Federally recognized on December 13, 1922 as the 1st Battalion, Coast Artillery Corps in Bridgeport Connecticut. The unit was converted and re-designated as the 242nd Engineer Battalion on July 1, 1961.
Charlie Company, 242nd Engineer Battalion (CBT), performed fence and road building operations in Southern California during AT99 in support of Task Force Border Road. Alpha Company conducted operations to the east of San Diego. B Company, 242nd Engineer Battalion (CBT), deployed to the Dominican Republic 23 July-8 August 1999 for Annual Training. The mission was to finish the schools that US Southern Command's "JTF Caribbean Castle" had been building since April. The school project was a relief effort to rebuild communities that suffered losses due to Hurricane Georges in 1998. A total of 3500 U.S. Guard and Reserve soldiers participated in the project, and 8 schools were built. Connecticut Engineers were on the last rotation and helped finish-up 5 of the schools.
