2nd Battalion - 46th Infantry Regiment
"Lead to Victory"

The 2nd Battalion, 46th Infantry Regiment, conducts Basic Combat Training in order to provide soldiers trained in the basic skills to fight and win.

The 2nd Battalion, 46th Infantry Regiment, was originally constituted on 15 May 1917 in the Regular Army as Company B, 46th Infantry. It organized on 4 June 1917 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN, before inactivating on 16 November 1921 at Camp Travis, TX. It demobolized on 31 July 1922.

The unit was reconstituted on 28 August 1941 in the regualr Army as Company B, 46th Infantry (Armored), an element of the 5th Armored Division and activated on 1 October 1941 at Fort Knox, KY. It was redesignated on 1 January 1942 as Company B, 46th Armored Infantry.

The unit reorganized and was redesignated on 20 September 1943 as Company B, 47th Armored Infantry Battalion, an element of the 5th Armored Division. It inactivated on 8 October 1945 at Camp Myles Standish, MA.

The unit activated on 6 July 1948, at Camp Chaffee, AR. It inactivated on 1 Febuary 1950 at Camp Chaffee, AR.

The unit activated on 1 September 1950 at Camp Chaffee, AR. It inactivated on 16 March 1956 at Camp Chaffee, AR. (The 47th Armored Infantry Battalion was relieved on 15 Febuary 1957 from assignment to the 5th Armored Division).

The unit was redesignated on 1 October 1957 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Armored Rifle Battalion, 46th Infantry; was assigned to the 3rd Armored Division, and activated in Germany (its organic elements concurrently constituted and activated). The unit reorganized and was redesignated on 3 Febuary 1962 as the 2nd Battalion, 46th Infantry; it was concurrently relieved from assignment to the 3rd Armored Division and assigned to the 1st Armored Division.

The unit inactivated on 13 September 1972 in Germany.
