2nd Battalion, 196th Infantry Brigade
The mission of the 2nd Battalion, 196th Infantry Brigade, based at Fort Richardson, Alaska is to provide professional, high quality, and responsive training support to Reserve Component units in Alaska to sustain or improve unit pre-mobilization readiness in the areas of operational capability, logistics, and administration to perform world-wide missions. The Battalion would, on order, provide Defense Coordinating Officer and Element (DCO and DCE) for operations requiring Military Support to Civil Authorities (MSCA) in Alaska or the mobilization and/or demobilization assistance teams (MAT/DMAT) to support the mobilization and/or demobilization of reserve component units from throughout the United States Army, Pacifc Area Of Responsibilty.
The 2nd Battalion, 196th Infantry Brigade was activated between 1998 and 1999 as part of the activation of the 196th Infantry Brigade as a numbered training support brigade. The 2nd Battalion, 196th Infantry Brigade became the Training Support Battalion (TSB) for the state of Alaska. The Battalion Headquarters was located at Camp Denali on Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska.
