1st Aviation Group
In January 1999, the Georgia Army National Guard activated the 1st Aviation Group (Provisional). The unit is headquartered at Dobbins Air Reserve Base.
The Georgia Army National Guard activated its first Light Utility Helicopter Company at the Winder Armory in October 1999.
Company H, 171st Aviation Regiment conducted humanitarian relief missions to Honduras and Nicaragua in the wake of Hurricane Mitch. Members of the 171st Aviation, along with Detachment 1, Company F, 131st Aviation, also provided support to the state of North Carolina during the aftermath of Hurricane Floyd.
From October 1998 through April 1999, the 148th Medical Company provided medical evacuation support to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Andrews, NC.
The Reconnaissance and Interdiction Detachment (RAID), headquartered at Dobbins ARB, supported the Counterdrug Task Force by providing aerial surveillance using its OH-58 observation helicopter.
