187th Ordnance Regiment

The mission of the 187th Ordnance Regiment is to provide our Army with disciplined, motivated, and physically-fit apprentice level soldier mechanics who espouse the Army Core Values, and who are focused on Team-Work.

The 187th Ordnance Battalion was first constituted on May 1, 1936 in the Regular Army, Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 3rd Battalion, 54th Quartermaster Regiment and was activated on April 1, at Fort Custer, MI. The unit was redesignated on Oct 7, 1942 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 187th Ordnance Heavy Maintenance Battalion, but was inactivated in 1945.

As a result of the U.S. Army Regimental System, the headquarters was transferred in 1987 to the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command. Assigned to the 4th Training Brigade at the U.S. Army Training Center at Fort Jackson, SC, it was activated and organized for its present training mission of producing specialists in light and heavy wheeled vehicle repair and additional skills in vehicle recovery.
