Special Troops Battalion, 15th Sustainment Brigade

The mission of the Special Troops Battalion, 15th Sustainment Brigade is to, on order, deploy in support of contingency operations in order to provide communications architecture and support the 15th Sustainment Brigade's mission and to plan, prepare, execute, and assess combat service support operations within a division area of operations. The Battalion executes RESET of organic units. It safely, efficiently and effectively integrates attached units into the Battalion's task organization and manages all subordinate unit readiness and well being according to ARFORGEN priorities. It validates and deploys individual soldiers and units as required.

As part of the Army's transformation towards a modular force, the Special Troops Battalion, 15th Sustainment Brigade was activated on 6 July 2005 at Fort Hood, Texas. Its mission was to rapidly deploy to designated contingency areas, conduct security and support operations, receive, integrate, and provide command and control for attachment units to facilitate the 15th Sustainment Brigade's support to units assigned within its designated area of operations.

On 29 July 2006, the Battalion deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08. Their duties included supporting the Sustainment Brigade headquarters logistics command and control mission, while assuming the additional missions of base security. It also included the training of the 6th Iraqi Motorized Transportation Regiment, the al-Taji regional support unit, and the al-Taji national depot. The Special Troops Battalion redeployed on 18 October 2007.
