The 15th Finance Battalion is in direct support of the 1st Cavalry Division. The Battalion services approximately 18,000 soldiers. 15th Finance Battalion provides a trained and ready deployable force to support all units in its area of responsibility throughout the continuum of peace and war. Ensure the financial readiness of supported units prior to deployment. Disseminate policy guidance, assist unit commanders, support contracting and commercial vendor services, and provide continuous finance support. Provide DS to 1CD, HQS AAFES, Bell Helicopter, Federal Agency Fort Worth, SW Engineers, DLA and the Dallas MEPS, totaling in excess of 18,000 accounts.
The unit was constituted on 15 March 1971 in the Regular Army as the 15th Finance Company, assigned to the 1st Armored Division and activated at Fort Hood, Texas. It was then relieved 15 May 1971 from assignment to the 1st Armored Division and assigned to the 1St Cavalry Division. The unit was reorganized and redesignated on 16 April 1987 as the 15th Finance Support Unit assigned to the 3rd Finance Group, Fort Hood, Texas. On 16 October 1992, the 15th Finance Support Unit was redesignated as the 15th Finance Battalion.
