152nd Engineer Battalion

The 152nd Engineer Battalion was originally constituted on 7 November 1942 in the Army of the United States as the 152nd Engineer Combat Battalion. It activated on 23 November 1943 on Kauai, Territory of Hawaii, and concurrently consolidated of the disbanded 2nd Battalion, 152nd Engineer Regiment (organized 24 September 1861 in the New York State Militia at New York as part of the 22nd Regiment). The consolidated unit was designated as the 152nd Engineer Combat Battalion (This consolidation merged Companies D, E and F of the disbanded 152nd Engineer Regiment which formerly was part of the 2nd Battalion, 102nd Engineer Regiment, 27th Infantry Division to form the nucleus of the newly constituted unit). It inactivated on 31 January 1946 in Korea.

It was allotted on 27 September 1946 to the New York Army National Guard and assigned to the 27th Infantry Division (former 2nd Battalion, 152nd Engineers was concurrently withdrawn -- hereafter separate lineage).

The unit organized and was Federally recognized on 14 October 1947 with Headquarters at Buffalo. It was redesignated on 1 February 1953 as the 152nd Engineer Battalion. It was reorganized and redesignated on 1 February 1955 as the 152nd Armored Engineer Battalion (the 27th Infantry Division was concurrently reorganized and redesignated as the 27th Armored Division).

It reorganized and was redesignated ib 16 March 1959 as the 152nd Engineer Battalion. It was relieved ib 1 February 1968 from assignment to the 27th Armored Division.

In January 1999 Governor George E. Pataki activated members of the 152nd Engineer Battalion, 42nd Infantry Division, of the New York National Guard to assist in the City of Buffalo's continuing snow removal efforts. Buffalo Mayor Anthony Massiello requested state assistance in the recovery efforts. Snow removal is vital to public safety because in many cases, a build-up of snow leads to blind intersections, preventing drivers from seeing oncoming traffic. The National Guard also assisted in snow removal in Buffalo during the blizzard of 1995.
