120th Adjutant General Battalion

The mission of the 120th Adjutant General Battalion is to receive, process, motivate, and begin soldierization prior to Basic Combat Training (BCT) at Fort Jackson, for all Regular Army, National Guard, and United States Army Reserve.

On 22 April 1960, Third United States Army General Order Number 92 established the United States Army Reception Station at Fort Jackson.

Its mission was to conduct all administrative processing of Initial Entry Training (IET) soldiers and prior service personnel of the Regular Army, United States Army Reserve, and National Guard assigned to Fort Jackson for basic training and/or Advance Individual Training. Here was to be the beginning of the soldierization process to prepare receptees for training. Command and control, administration, logistics, billeting, dining and religious services are provided for all assigned and attached elements.

By 1967, Fort Jackson processed over 103,000 receptees through the Reception Station. In 1987, the Reception Station was redesignated to the 120th Adjutant General (AG) Battalion (Reception) in honor of the late Congressman L. Mendel Rivers. In 1994, the 120th AG BN ceased being a major subordinate command; the battalion is now a member of the Victory Brigade.
