10th Military Police Battalion (CID) (Airborne)

The 10th Military Police Battalion (Criminal Investigation Division) (Airborne) provides criminal investigative support to military commanders in both war and peace time environments. As of 2010, the 10th Military Police Battalion consists of a Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, the 12th Military Police Detachment, 32nd Military Police Detachment, 37th Military Police Detachment, 87th Military Police Detachment (Airborne), and the Fort Gordon and Fort Lee Resident Agencies.

The Battalion provided investigative oversight to the military communities and surroundings areas of Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Fort Jackson, South Carolina; Fort Eustis, Virginia; Fort Lee, Virginia; and Fort Gordon, Georgia. The Battalion supported the XVIII Airborne Corps and 82nd Airborne Division, US Army Special Operations Command, Fort Gordon Signal Support Center, Fort Jackson Soldier Support Institute, Fort Lee Combined Army Support Command, Fort Eustis Transportation Command, and subordinate units.

The 10th Military Police Battalion (CID (Airbrone) was first constituted on 12 August 1943 in the Army of the United States as the 10th Military Police Section, Criminal Investigation and activated on 14 August 1943 at Fort Custer, Michigan. The unit was reorganized and redesignated on 19 March 1944 as the 10th Criminal Investigation Section, on 15 September 1944 as the 10th Military Police Criminal Investigation Section, and again on 29 December 1944 as the 10th Military Police Criminal Investigation Detachment. The unit served during the Second World War, participating in 5 campaigns: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. Following the end of the Second World War, the unit was inactivated on 25 February 1946 in Germany.

The unit was reactivated on 2 January 1947 at New York, New York and allotted 1 August 1951 to the Regular Army. It was reorganized and redesignated on 16 August 1954 as the 10th Military Police Detachment. It was inactivated on 24 December 1965 at New York, New York. The Detachment was reactivated on 16 January 1968 at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey and again inactivated 25 July 1969 at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.

The Detachment was again reactivated on 1 August 1973 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. It was reorganized and redesignated on 1 September 1996 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 10th Military Police Battalion. After its reactivation in 1973, the unit participated in a number of operations aruond the world, including: Operations Just Cause and Promote Liberty in Panama; Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia and Iraq; the Multi-National Observers Mission in the Sinai Desert in Egypt; Uphold Democracy in Haiti; the disaster relief efforts following Hurricane Andrew in Florida; Operation Noble Eagle in the US; Operation Enduring Freedom in Kuwait and Afghanistan. The unit also deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in Kuwait and Iraq.
