"Command and Attack"
The mission of the 1st Battalion 38th Field Artillery is to provide rocket and missile fires in support of 2nd Infantry Division's defense of the Republic of Korea.
This unit stood up in 2001 and has 18 MLRS assigned to it. A Battery, 38th Field Artillery, which had previously been attached to the 6th Battalion, 37th Field Artillery, was redesignated as the Headquarters and Headquarters Service Battery, 1st Battalion, 38th Field Artillery. The rest of the unit's batteries were subsequently activated with the help of 6th Battalion, 37th Field Artillery.
Initially assigned to the 2nd Fires Brigade, the unit was in November 2006 when the 2nd Fires brigade was reflagged as the 210th Fires Brigade.
