1st Battalion, 210th Aviation Regiment
On 16 June 2008, the 1st Battalion, 210th Aviation Regiment was inactivated as part of the restructuring of US Army Aviation Warfighting Center to become the US Army Aviation Center of Excellence. The 6th Military Police Detachment and B Company, 46th Engineer Battalion (Combat) (Heavy) were reassigned to the 1st Battalion, 13th Aviation Regiment. The 98th Army Band was reassigned to the 1st Battalion, 145th Aviation Regiment.
The 1st Battalion, 210th Aviation Regiment was first constituted on 6 January 1996 in the Regular Army as Headquarters, 1st Battalion, 210th Aviation. It was concurrently transferred to the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) and organized at Fort Rucker, Alabama. Drawing its lineage from elements of the 210th Aviation Regiment (redesignated as a parent regiment under the United States Army Regimental System on 6 January 1996 from the 210th Aviation Battalion), 1-210th Aviation gained participation credit for 12 campaigns during the conflict in Vietnam: Counteroffensive Phase II, Counteroffensive Phase III, Tet Counteroffensive, Counteroffensive Phase IV, Counteroffensive Phase V, Counteroffensive Phase VI, Tet 69/Counteroffensive, Summer-Fall 1969, Winter-Spring 1970, Sanctuary Counteroffensive, Counteroffensive Phase VII, and Consolidation I. The unit colors were also authorized four Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and a Republic of Vietnam Civil Action Honor Medal, First Class.
After its activation, 1-210th Aviation was tasked with providing various forms of support to Fort Rucker, Alabama. The soldiers in Headquarters and A Companies supported the installation staff. In addition, A Company, Fort Rucker Military Police Activity; B Company, 46th Engineer Battalion (Combat) (Heavy), and F Company, 58th Aviation were attached to the Battalion. A Company, Fort Rucker Military Police Activity provided law, order, and security to the installation. Company B, 46th Engineer Battalion (Combat) (Heavy) was a deployable FORSCOM unit that provided troop construction to Fort Rucker and the surrounding communities. F Company, 58th Aviation Regiment was also a deployable FORSCOM unit that performs multi-level maintenance on tactical navigation aids worldwide.
By 2008, A Company, Fort Rucker Military Police Activity had been reflagged as the 6th Military Police Detachment. The US Army Aviation Center's Silver Wings Band, the 98th Army Band, which provided music for ceremonies, recreational activities, and concert on post and throughout the region, was also attached to the Battalion.
