BfV Legislative Authority

The protection of the Constitution is governed by a special law (BVerfSchG), which controls tasks, authorities and activities of the protection of the Constitution authorities as well as the transmission of information exactly; in addition there are instructions which the protection of the Constitution has to comply with.

The Law for the Further Development of Data processing and the Protection of Data Privacy enacted on 20 December 1990 defined the legal basis for its activities more precisely and ensured greater protection for the citizens' rights of privacy. The federal and state agencies for the protection of the constitution are under the supervision of the competent ministers, parliaments and data protection commissioners. Further control is exercised by the courts.

  • "Cooperation Guidelines" - 27 June 1973 (controls the cooperation of BND, Verfassurigsschutz and MAD)
