Vasyl Maliuk reveals new details of special operations in which SSU prevented two assassination attempts on President of Ukraine

The Security Service of Ukraine has foiled two assassination attempts on the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi. The SSU Head, Lieutenant General Vasyl Maliuk, revealed details of these special operations at a meeting with journalists.

'Last year, we had a very high-profile operation. The Security Service detained a colonel, a department head in the State Protection Directorate. Another colonel was detained along with him. They worked for russia's federal security service, specifically the 5th service, and were preparing an assassination attempt on our President, Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyi. According to their criminal plan, they were looking for executors and were going to carry it out while he was passing through the territory of the Office of the President of Ukraine,' said Vasyl Maliuk.

He emphasized that complex work had been carried out to counter enemy plans: 'We have been working on this for almost two years, essentially since the beginning of the war. A powerful agent-technical infiltration into this group was carried out.'

In addition to planning the assassination of the President, the traitors collected important information and passed it on to the russians. They also prepared an assassination attempt on the Head of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, and Vasyl Maliuk himself.

'Speaking of the assassination attempts on the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, we should mention one more operation. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Internal Security Agency of Poland - we carried out an important criminal investigation together with them. A Polish military pensioner, who had been recruited decades ago, he firmly believed in the soviet idea and nurtured his intentions over the years. So, the enemy activated this sleeper agent,' the SSU Head disclosed.

His task was to physically eliminate President Zelenskyi at Rzeszów airport.

'Several options were considered. One of them was an FPV-drone, another was a sniper complex. But we detained the agent. Our Polish colleagues worked professionally, it was a joint effort,' Vasyl Maliuk remarked.
