The Israeli government does not disclose information on the overall size of the IDF, or the identity, location, and strength of units. This policy has been rather successful in obscuring the IDF ground forces order of battle. Nonetheless, with a few exceptions, the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London and Periscope are in remarkably good agreement on most elements of the IDF orbat. Periscope provides estimates for active component armor formations that are clearly impossible to reconcile with troops strengths -- by Periscope's estimate the active component would have twice as many Brigades as the Reserves, with only one-fourth the personnel.
