AWE Burghfield
AWE Burghfield, which employs some 600 people, covers 265 acres located 5 miles southwest of Aldermaston near Reading in Berkshire. Established in 1954 as Royal Ordnance Factory (ROF) Burghfield, the facility is the final assembly location for British nuclear weapons, performing the functions conducted at Pantex in the United States. Currently, ageing WE177s are being transported to AWE Burghfield where the weapons are being dismantled.
