Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)

Fighter-interceptor "114R"

Further development of the idea of the "R" aircraft was the project of the anti-aircraft interceptor "114R". Probably, this was the first project in the Soviet Union (and possibly in the world) of a supersonic aircraft with a swept wing and a jet engine. On both sides of the fuselage "114R" in the root parts of the wing in the form of separate ejector motor blocks were located two LRE, developed under the leadership of VP Glushko also in the prison design bureau that was in the war years in Kazan. The swept wing (33° along the leading edge) should have control of the boundary layer to increase the aerodynamic quality.

Schemes of the device designed to control the boundary layer of the wing were not found in the remaining drawings, although it is known that the suction of the boundary layer from the wing was to be carried out by JRE jet, similar to the one proposed in Project R. The armament of the airplane, apparently, consisted of two SHVAK guns of caliber 20 mm. For take-off, wheeled chassis "chassis" was used, for landing - ski-skid with a shock absorber in the form of a rubber air chamber. On the ground the aircraft leaned on one of the wing tips, curved downwards - a flipper. In addition, the possibility of launching an interceptor from an aircraft at an altitude of about 10,000 meters was considered.

On take-off from the ground, its calculated ceiling reached 24,000 meters, then after detachment from the carrier aircraft - 40,000 meters. An infrared locator was developed for the aircraft. 114R was to develop an unprecedented speed for 1942 of more than 2000 km / h [Mach 1.6]. In the development of the project involved: in technology - EP Shekunov, in strength - VN Beliaev, locator - KE Polischuk. If, on take-off from the ground, its calculated ceiling reached 24,000 meters, then after detachment from the carrier aircraft - 40,000 meters! An infrared locator was developed for the aircraft.

In addition, RL Bartini compiled a report on the use of jet propulsion systems in aviation and on the organization of research and experimental construction in this field. It was planned to build a non-motorized version of the airplane, a glider 114R-b. But neither the glider nor the plane was built.

In the autumn of 1943, when the position of Soviet troops on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War after the Battle of Kursk greatly improved, R.Bartini's group was reorganized and specialists were transferred to other divisions.
