Golitsino
All-Russian Institute of Phytopathology
The All-Russian Institute of Phytopathology in Golitsino, about 30 miles west of Moscow, made pathogens that would kill crops. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, its staff has dropped from 1200 to 276, and the institute has become a leader in pesticide research and in transgenic plants to resist certain herbicides, insects and diseases.
