Work conducted ar RCI includes specialities such as automated test systems, data acquisition, analysis, control electronics, digital signal processing, quality control of high reliability electronic packages, pyro systems, environmental testing, and integration of multistage aerospace vehicles. Activities range from software operations, navigational checks, sensor interface and calibration, to environmental and integration check-outs. Typical projects include development of a data acquisition system for suface to air missile ground segment. This system was developed for acquisition of analog data from the radar interface maintained on the Mobile Vehicle which is converted into digital data and data retrieved at the Ground Electronics system. The system is based on the Intel 87c196 Microcontroller, with communication is done by the MIL-STD-1553B Serial Communication Protocol. The Symbol Generation Unit Synthesis for the indigenously built Light Comat Aircraft (LCA) is an output synthesis module which synthesises the display data from various modules -- such as Macro Functions and Linking Management Modules -- for the three display surfaces [HUD, LMFD, RMFD]. SGU Synthesis decides the data for the three display surfaces in terms of pages. The display data consists of Reticles data, Options data and Warning data.
The RCI is one of the nodal laboratories that is involved in developing light-weight composite material for the missiles developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation. RCI's Composite Product and Development Centre (CPDC) is also working on uses of high-tech material for social applications, such as light-weight artificial limbs. The CPDC is being assisted by several other defense laboratories like the Hyderabad-based Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratories (DMRL) and the Defence Research and Development Laboratories (DRDL). As of mid-1999 the management of MECON Ltd. the consultancy entreprise under the Department of Steel in the Steel & Mines Ministry, was providing detailed engineering and consultancy services for up-gradation of clean room facility from Class- 10000 to Class -1000 and Class -100 for Research Center Imarat.
