Russia has accused the United States of violating the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) by deploying tactical weapons in European countries.
On Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov renewed Moscow's attacks on Washington for the deployment of missiles in several Eastern European countries.
In a Q&A-format interview with journalists, he said the deployment of US weapons close to Russian borders was "a breach" of the treaty.
Kremlin has long been critical of missile deployments by the US and its allies in the Western military alliance of NATO. Russian officials say Washington and its allies are threatening Russia by expanding their missile programs in Eastern Europe.
The senior Russian diplomat also said Moscow is not interested in opening US-style military bases abroad, adding, 'We are using airfields and ports, and we are ready to agree upon supply and logistics hubs with foreign countries.'
'We are interested in doing so on legal terms. We do not think that we need bases the way the US understands them, a fortress, a well protected stronghold packed with modern armaments,' Lavrov said.
