NAVAIR News Release
Press Release Number: E200306041
Release Date: 6/4/2003
A team of personnel from the VX-20 E-6B test team, the NAVAIR Patuxent River Electromagnetic Effects Branch, and VQ-4 Alert Detachment Patuxent River recently conducted a series of tests on a VQ-4 E-6B Mercury aircraft at the Electromagnetic Effects Branch's High Power Discharge Facility. The purpose of the testing was to verify the effectiveness of the hardness protection program instituted by the NAVAIR E-6B Program Office (PMA-271) in partnership with Strategic Communications Wing 1 squadrons based at Tinker AFB, Okla. As the nation's premiere airborne command and control platform, the E-6B is required to maintain a level of EMP hardness among the highest in the Department of Defense. This test was the second in an on-going hardness surveillance program for the entire inventory of E-6B aircraft. PMA-271 would like to extend special thanks to all the professionals at the High Power Discharge Facility who completed testing as scheduled and returned the test aircraft to operational use as promised to VQ-4.
