Navy Awards General Dynamics $60 Million for Systems Engineering Support for Trident II Submarines

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), has been awarded three contracts this month by the U.S. Navy for engineering and operational support for Trident II submarines. The total value of the contracts could reach $60 million if all options are exercised.

Mike Eagan, director of the program, said, "These contract awards represent the next phase of our command and control work for the weapon systems currently deployed on Ohio Class submarines. The majority of this work is related to advanced automation and life-cycle engineering for the recently deployed, commercial-off-the-shelf-based Mk98 Mod 4 weapon system. This effort will also include the production and installation of an on-board maintenance information network which will improve the fleet operator’s efficiency and effectiveness in maintaining the weapon system."

General Dynamics, headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia, employs approximately 52,000 people worldwide and anticipates 2001 sales of approximately $12 billion. The company has leading market positions in business aviation, information systems, shipbuilding and marine systems, and land and amphibious combat systems.
