Gen Myers Nominated to Lead

U.S. Space, Air Force Space Commands
PETERSON AFB, CO -- Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced today that the President has nominated Gen Richard B. Myers, U.S. Air Force, for appointment to the grade of general with assignment as commander in chief, United States Space Command; commander in chief, North American Aerospace Defense Command; commander, Air Force Space Command; and Department of Defense Manager for Space Transportation Systems Contingency Support.
Gen Myers is currently assigned as the commander, Pacific Air Forces, Air Component Commander for U.S. Pacific Command, and executive director, Pacific Air Combat Operations Staff, Hickam AFB, HI. From his headquarters in Hawaii Gen Myers stated, "I am very pleased to be nominated for the commander in chief, North American Aerospace Defense Command, the United States Space Command, and commander, Air Force Space Command. Space plays a vital role in the defense of our nation and I'm proud and excited to be part of the Space community as we transition to the 21st century and beyond." Myers was born March 1, 1942, in Kansas City, MO.
If confirmed, Gen Myers will assume command from Gen Howell M. Estes III.
