Iran's ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Ali-Asghar Soltaniyeh said on Wednesday that the proposed agenda for the preliminary NPT meeting is unacceptable.
The preliminary committee meetings of the 2010 NPT revision conference has been underway in Vienna as of Monday and will continue for two weeks. The ongoing meetings aim to decide the agenda of the revision conference.
He noted that commitment to NPT is a subject proposed by the US as the main issue to be discussed at the 2010 NPT revision conference, adding that Iran believes that restricting the sessions of the conference to such a subject is irrational.
The statement was part of an interview with reporters on the sidelines of ongoing preliminary committee meetings.
"Other options such as nuclear disarmament and a Middle East free from nuclear weapons should also be included in the relevant agenda, in which case, Iran will be ready to take an active part in the sessions," he added.
Soltaniyeh said, "We are against an optional approach to NPT and have declared our readiness to this end.
"However, we will not change our stance on the agenda of the conference."
