Ukraine's Ministry of Defense has refuted information to the effect that Croatia has purchased from the republic 20 modern S-300 ABM interceptor systems. This information was carried on 19 July in a Serbian weekly as "news."
As a statement disseminated by the Press Office of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine of 22 July says, "Ukraine abides strictly by the generally accepted international rules of law and does not violate the moratorium on sales of weapons to states that are involved in military conflicts." The document observes that "such information does not correspond to reality and could lead to a distorted interpretation of Ukraine's position in a peaceful settlement of the Yugoslav crisis."
The Ministry of Defense statement also emphasizes that such a report discredits the lofty mission of Ukrainian servicemen in the UN peacekeeping force in the former Yugoslavia.
