  • LUGAR MEETS WITH UKRAINE'S MILITARY CHIEF, PRAISES ARMS REDUCTIONS - Washington -- Lugar praised Ukraine for reducing its Cold War nuclear arsenal, saying, "The removal of all nuclear warheads from Ukraine last year was a milestone in the reduction of the former Soviet arsenal that had targeted the United States for many years. Last week's announcement that Ukraine has agreed to destroy a major component of its missile program takes the process of peaceful disarmament an important step further." 08 May 1997

Cohen Minister of Defense General Colonel Oleksandr Kuzmuk of Ukraine At a joint news briefing at the Pentagon, Cohen said that "the United States and Ukraine worked very closely together and our cooperation has helped lead to the speedy removal of Ukraine's nuclear weapons."

They've shipped out all the nuclear warheads.
