Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk participated in the G7 Energy Ministers' Meeting in Toronto. As a result of the meeting, for the first time at G7 level, the energy ministers issued a separate joint statement on Ukraine's energy security.
"With this document, they declared unwavering support for Ukraine, readiness to continue contributing to the strengthening of our energy security, and recognised the massive negative impact of russian aggression on the global security situation in the energy sector," emphasised Svitlana Grynchuk.
Key points. Our partners:
- acknowledged the heroism and resilience of Ukraine's energy sector workers, who restore energy infrastructure daily under extremely difficult conditions. The ministers recognised that russian attacks pose significant risks to Ukraine's population and its energy security.
- declared unwavering support for Ukraine - called for continued assistance in restoring Ukraine's energy infrastructure, including through the mechanisms of the G7+ Ukraine Energy Coordination Group and the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. The G7 will continue providing support to protect Ukraine's energy infrastructure and promote nuclear safety and security in Ukraine through the IAEA.
- stressed the importance of uniting efforts and increasing pressure on the aggressor. The partners agreed that tough sanctions against russian energy-related companies and the elimination of russia's shadow tanker fleet would substantially limit the russian federation's financial capacity to continue funding the war in Ukraine.
As a result of the meeting, Ukraine also officially joined G7 initiatives on the development of critical minerals, expansion of digital energy infrastructure and AI-based innovations, enhancement of energy security, and development of innovations to build resilient and secure energy systems.
"Thank you to my fellow G7 energy ministers for their consolidated position and unwavering support for Ukraine," said Svitlana Grynchuk.
