On 28 October, during the annual Development Cooperation Conference RE:VIVE 2025, Lithuania and Ireland took another significant step in strengthening bilateral cooperation by signing the second addendum to the memorandum of cooperation, under which Ireland will allocate an additional €2 million to the Lithuanian Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid Fund.

"Ireland's contribution demonstrates a true spirit of partnership - together we are investing in Ukraine's future and the opportunities for its children. This agreement strengthens our countries' efforts to support Ukraine's reconstruction and integration into the European Union," said the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Sigitas Mitkus.

Under the new agreement, Ireland's support will go towards the "Future School for Ukraine" initiative - the start of construction of a modern multifunctional school in the city of Zhytomyr. The project, implemented with Ukrainian and Italian architects, aims to restore the educational infrastructure and provide a safe and inclusive learning environment for children affected by the war.

Another part of the contribution will be allocated to co-financing the EU Integration Support Programme for Ukraine (Ukraine2EU), implemented by Lithuania. This initiative brings together donors to pool their support and coordinates activities aimed at preparing Ukraine for EU membership, with a focus on strengthening state institutions responsible for the accession process and necessary reforms.

The extension of this memorandum not only strengthens cooperation between Lithuania and Ireland but also highlights a common strategic vision - to rebuild Ukraine's education system, strengthen institutions, and support the EU accession process.
