In response to a question that Ukrainian leader, several European countries, and senior EU officials issued a joint statement on Tuesday calling on Russia to immediately cease hostilities in Ukraine and start peace negotiations based on the current front line between Russian and Ukrainian forces, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that China's position on the Ukraine crisis is consistent and clear.

"We hope all parties can reach a fair, lasting, and binding peace agreement acceptable to all parties involved through dialogue and negotiations," Guo said at Wednesday's press briefing.

European leaders have backed the proposal by US President Donald Trump on Tuesday to establish a ceasefire in Ukraine along the current line of fighting. A total of 10 top European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a joint statement on Tuesday, according to euronews.com.
