On 22 September, the Minister-designate of Foreign Affairs, Kęstutis Budrys, attended an informal meeting of EU Foreign Affairs Ministers, which took place on the margins of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) high-level week in New York.
Foreign Ministers of Brazil, Mexico, and India also attended the meeting to discuss Russia's aggression against Ukraine and global security issues, including efforts to combat sanctions evasion by Russia and its shadow fleet, the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia, and the military participation of third countries in Zapad-2025 military exercises.
Budrys, together with the Ministers of five Baltic and Nordic countries (NB6), called for protecting the principles of the UN Charter and the non-recognition of the territories of Ukraine that are occupied and annexed by Russia. "The defence of the principles of sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity enshrined in the UN Charter concerns all of us, not only Ukraine. The entire international community must urge Russia to end its war of aggression," the Ministers said in the joint statement.
The NB6 ministers also stressed that aggressor Russia and its ally in the war against Ukraine, Belarus, must continue to be isolated from the rest of the international community, and called for tougher sanctions against Russia to crush its war machine.
