Dear colleagues, dear Andrii,
We cannot stand by and simply watch as Russia continues to attack Ukrainian cities and civilians.
The systematic Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure are not just attacks on power plants — they are attacks on hospitals, schools and homes. They are attacks on people.
It's time to act now, to prevent Ukrainian households from facing a winter without heat and electricity.
Therefore, we must continue to increase our support to Ukraine. Sweden is doing our part. Compared to last year, Sweden has nearly doubled our civilian support to around 920 million dollars in total.
And in our support, Ukraine's energy sector is a key priority. Our support goes primarily through the Energy Community's Ukraine Energy Support Fund and the World Bank Ukraine Trust Fund, but also through UNDP.
Thanks to our joint efforts, we have been able to provide cogeneration plants, backup generators, and over 2,000 tonnes of energy equipment. We have two gas turbines on their way to Ukraine, which will be able to generate electricity to 370 000 Ukrainians. These efforts keep hospitals running, homes warm, and schools open.
We urge other countries to join us and to increase their support as well.
Dear colleagues,
As we rebuild a war-torn Ukraine, we have an opportunity to modernise Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
As a member of the G7+ Energy Coordination Group and an active contributor to the Clean Energy Partnership, we are united in our resolve to help Ukraine not only to rebuild - but to build back better, greener, and more resilient.
Through the Clean Energy Partnership, we are helping Ukraine to lay the foundation for a resilient, decentralised, and climate-neutral energy system—one that aligns with EU energy and climate goals. This strengthens Ukraine's path toward EU membership.
We welcome Ukraine's progress on key reforms, including the adoption of its National Energy and Climate Plan, and we support its efforts to expand new sources of fossil-free energy, to improve energy efficiency, and to attract green investments.
Sweden and Ukraine recently signed a memorandum of understanding which established a partnership on energy and green transition. Swedish companies are well-placed to support Ukraine in its recovery. Especially when it comes to the digital, sustainable, and green solutions that will benefit Ukrainian society.
Let us continue to stand with Ukraine—not only to rebuild, but to renew. With the help of our joint efforts, Ukraine will recover, develop and grow to become a prosperous European nation.
Thank you. Slava Ukraini!
