Today in Kyiv, the Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Poland, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, signed a Memorandum on the establishment of a Joint Working Group on Unmanned Aerial Systems.
"We are advancing our security cooperation to a new level in response to russian terror, which poses a threat to Ukraine and other European countries. Joint training programs will form a central component of this working group," emphasised Denys Shmyhal.
The role of the Joint Working Group will be to:
- promote the exchange of operational expertise and practical experience in the UAV domain;
- develop and test methods for the employment of UAS and counter-UAS measures, and integrate innovative technologies;
- strengthen interoperability between the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Armed Forces of Poland and ensure compatibility with NATO standards.
In addition, the Ministers signed a Joint Declaration aimed at reinforcing security and defence cooperation. In this document, the parties agreed to deepen cooperation in key areas, including, in particular, SAFE and PURL initiatives.
Denys Shmyhal and his Polish counterpart also signed a letter addressed to the Defence Ministers of NATO member states. In this letter, they called on the allies to assign experts to the Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC) and to actively participate in its projects.
"I extend my sincere gratitude to Poland and personally to Mr Kosiniak-Kamysz for their support. Together, we are reinforcing the security of our nations and the whole European continent," said Denys Shmyhal.
