The President: Reliable security guarantees for Ukraine require a solid contribution from coalition members
President of the Republic of Lithuania

On Thursday, President Gitanas Nausėda participated remotely in a summit of the Coalition of the Willing, which was also attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The meeting was co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
According to Gitanas Nausėda, Lithuania supports broad European engagement in ensuring robust security guarantees for Ukraine. "For lasting peace, we must ensure a strong Ukrainian army and sustainable security guarantees, the effective implementation of which requires U.S. involvement. We see Washington's serious commitment, and we must leverage it while strengthening Europe's contribution. The guarantees must have a real deterrent effect so that they do not become yet another Budapest Memorandum," he said.
The President stressed that the coalition must be ready to act swiftly, under an agreed mandate and clear rules for joint action.
He reaffirmed Lithuania's commitment to contributing to Ukraine's security guarantees by sending both troops to ensure security and military equipment. Lithuania also supports NATO's PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) initiative to procure U.S.-made weapons for Ukraine, allocating 30 million euros for this purpose. In addition, Lithuania has pledged to contribute to the transfer of U.S. Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.
The President emphasized the need to exert maximum pressure on Russia through sanctions, highlighting the importance of accelerating the adoption of the 19th sanctions package, preventing circumvention, using Russia's frozen assets, and making wider use of secondary sanctions.
The Coalition of the Willing was launched on the initiative of France and the United Kingdom in February 2025 to support Ukraine's independence and sovereignty and to ensure a ceasefire once an agreement is reached. More than 30 countries, mostly NATO and EU member states, take part in the coalition.
