Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said that the meeting of the coalition of the willing that took place today, on 4 September, in Paris shows that the supporters of Ukraine are determined and their line remains strong.
"Today clearly shows that Ukraine is not alone in the fight against Russian aggression. At the meeting in Paris, the participating countries announced that the development of security guarantees has reached such a point that they are ready to ensure the security of Ukraine if a truce is concluded," Foreign Minister Tsahkna said.
"While NATO membership is the strongest security guarantee, it must be ensured that Russia's aggression against Ukraine does not recur. Strong security guarantees are critical for the security of both Ukraine and Europe," Tsahkna said, adding that only Ukraine can decide how to defend itself and therefore the Kremlin must not be given a say in this matter.
Estonia has confirmed its readiness to contribute with a company-sized unit, as well as training for officers and staff officers within the framework of Ukraine's security guarantees.
"As Russia terrorised Ukrainian cities with more than 500 drones and missiles just the night before today, it is clear that Russia's objectives in the war of aggression have not changed. Therefore, the pressure on Russia to end the war must continue," Tsahkna said.
