The SSU Counterintelligence has detained an enemy agent who was spying in Poltava, Cherkasy, and Kirovohrad oblasts. The perpetrator was preparing new russian air attacks on these regions.

The spotter's main task was to identify operational airfields of the Defence Forces and air defence systems and transmit their coordinates.

The enemy accomplice is an 18-year-old technical college student from Poltava. He came to the attention of russian special services when he was looking for 'easy money' on Telegram channels.

To gather intelligence, the young man travelled through the central regions of Ukraine, covertly photographing potential targets and the consequences of enemy strikes.

If an aviation facility was identified, the agent planned to install 'beacons' around the perimeter with remote access for the occupiers.

With the help of the spy devices, russia hoped to track the location of air bases and the deployment of mobile air defence groups, which it planned to attack.

The SSU identified the traitor at an early stage and detained him before he could install the spy device.

A smartphone with evidence of contacts with his handler and mini video cameras for adjusting russian air strikes were seized from him during the search.

SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation and investigation were carried out by the SSU Poltava Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor's Office.
