Russian President Vladimir Putin's special envoy Kirill Dmitriev has blamed war-mongering leaders in the European Union for "sabotaging" US President Donald Trump's peace initiative to end the Ukraine war.

"EU warmongers are sabotaging peace talks," Dmitriev said in a series of posts on X, blaming the EU for deliberately undermining US-led peace efforts in Ukraine.

Brussels is "sabotaging a real peace process" by encouraging Kiev to pursue what Dmitriev described as "impossible demands."

Dmitriev said the West is blocking the peace talks with the aim of prolonging the war in Ukraine by undermining Trump's peace initiative.

"EU warmongers exposed... Even Washington now sees it - EU leaders are prolonging the conflict in Ukraine with impossible demands," Dmitriev wrote.

Putin's special envoy urged the EU leaders to forget the failed strategy used previously during the presidency of Trump's predecessor, Joe Biden. "[D]rop Biden's failed logic" and "stop sabotaging a real peace process."

"I warned about these efforts to sabotage the Trump peace plan before," Dmitriev said in a separate post.

Dmitriev, who was present at the Alaska summit earlier this month between Trump and Putin, has criticized media reports aimed at discrediting Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff. "Afraid of a peace plan, EU/UK warmongers push 'foreign influence' ops in the US and worldwide to undermine US-Russia talks."

However, Dmitriev concluded that the continued negotiations will eventually prevail over the efforts to stall the talks and lead to a peace deal between the two sides.

Russia launched its "special military operation" in Donbas in February 2023 with the aim of liberating, demilitarizing, and denazifying the Russian-speaking region.
