Russian air defenses shot down 21 Ukrainian drones over various Russian regions overnight, the Defense Ministry reported.

"On-duty air defenses intercepted and destroyed 21 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles last night," the ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

"Eleven drones were shot down over the Volgograd Region, eight over the Rostov Region, one over the Belgorod Region, and another one over the Bryansk Region," it added.

Governor Andrey Bocharov also said that Russian air defenses repelled a massive drone attack on the southern Volgograd Region.

"A drone has fallen in the middle of a road in Srednyaya Akhtuba and deminers are working there," he noted, according to the regional administration's Telegram channel.

Bocharov added that falling drone debris caused fires in the region's south, which were quickly extinguished.

Meanwhile, Acting Governor Yury Slyusar confirmed that a drone attack had been repelled in the southern Rostov Region, noting that, according to preliminary reports, there were no consequences on the ground.

The Russia-Ukraine conflict has undergone major shifts in recent weeks, as Russia has intensified its offensive and Ukraine attempts to hold its defenses.

Russian forces have advanced on several fronts and now control nearly all of Luhansk, large portions of Donetsk, and most of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson.

Since March, Russia has captured more than 3,500 square kilometers of territory and dozens of villages. For the first time, Russian troops have also entered parts of Dnipropetrovsk, a region that had previously remained beyond their reach.
