On Tuesday, August 12, a meeting was held in Kyiv between Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Taras Kachka and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Lipavský. The parties discussed key issues on the bilateral agenda, including cooperation on Ukraine's accession to the EU, support for Ukraine's reform efforts, strengthening economic cooperation, and the importance of achieving sustainable peace.
The meeting was also attended by Petr Krouzek, Director of the East Europe Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Radek Pech, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Ukraine, Andrii Teliupa, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleksandr Mishchenko, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Czech Republic Vasyl Zvarych.
During the meeting, the parties agreed on the need to maintain the consistency of reforms in the field of justice in Ukraine on the path to European integration and to continue efforts to strengthen the anti-corruption infrastructure.
Taras Kachka emphasized that our state has already completed all the technical steps necessary to open the Negotiation Cluster 1, "Fundamentals of the EU Accession Process," and also counts on the EU's full unity on the issue of Ukraine's further progress in the negotiation process.
"We expect and need unity among all twenty-seven as confirmation of their true commitment to the enlargement process. The opening of Cluster 1 for Ukraine in the near future will be an important signal that the Union is capable of resolving complex issues and that unity within the bloc remains steadfast. We believe in an approach based on achievements and will continue to take the necessary steps — we count on the respective consistency of the EU," he stressed.
Taras Kachka thanked the Czech Republic for supporting Ukraine's European integration aspirations and called for intensified efforts ahead of important meetings of EU member state leaders in the fall of this year. He emphasized that separating Ukraine and Moldova on their path to the EU would send a clear signal to those interested in weakening European unity.
The parties also agreed to intensify efforts to strengthen economic cooperation. In particular, the Deputy Prime Minister reported on the growing interest of Czech businesses in Ukraine: currently, more than 220 Czech companies are operating effectively in our country. He called for consideration of opening an office of the Czech Development Agency in Ukraine. Ukraine also invited Czech companies to join the initiative to restore facilities destroyed as a result of russian aggression.
"We can see positive dynamics in bilateral trade and strive to strengthen it. The Czech Republic can play an important role in the restoration of Ukrainian industry and the expansion of our economic cooperation on mutually beneficial terms," said Taras Kachka.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed the issue of achieving sustainable peace in Ukraine and the latest efforts of partners in this direction. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized our country's readiness for a lasting peace settlement.
Jan Lipavský emphasized that his country stands in solidarity with Ukraine and assured of further support, both on the path to the EU and in the search for solutions for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
