Deepening the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States, enhancing the physical protection of energy facilities, particularly electrical substations, and effectively utilising international aid for infrastructure restoration were the key topics of a meeting between Ukraine's Energy Minister Svitlana Grynchuk and the U.S. Chargé d'Affaires in Ukraine, Julie S. Davis.

Ministry representatives also discussed preparations for the heating season, the implementation of long-term decarbonisation projects in the energy sector, and attracting investment through the U.S.-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund.

"The United States remains one of Ukraine's key partners in strengthening the resilience of our energy system. Our joint efforts focus on protecting energy infrastructure, developing modern energy generation, and integrating into the European energy space," said Svitlana Grynchuk.

Particular attention was given to cooperation in nuclear energy within the framework of the REPowerEU initiative, aimed at phasing out the EU's reliance on russian nuclear fuel. Discussions also covered stabilising the gas market, including increasing imports and leveraging Ukraine's underground storage facilities as a potential regional hub. The parties also addressed nuclear safety issues at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone.

According to the Ministry, since the start of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine's energy system has sustained over 65,000 instances of damage due to russian attacks. In 2024, despite an announced "energy truce," more than 2,500 new incidents were recorded.
